From Vine to Wine : Badgers Influencing the Wine Industry

We have a special holiday panel with a topic of particular interest to Badgers-Wine!  While most of us have a connection to Wisconsin and its amber beverages, being in Northern California many of us have adopted wine as our drink of choice.  Badgers are making a name for themselves in this industry, growing, making, and marketing wine. 
 
Our panel includes Patrick Riggs, a viticulturist with one of California's famous brands of sparkling wine, Domaine Chandon.  Patrick received a soil science degree from Wisconsin and a Masters in plant pathology from UC-Davis, specializing in viticulture.  Patrick has worked at Louis M Martini Vineyards, Newton Vineyards, and Domaine Chandon, the American sparkling wine brand of iconic French champagne producer Moet et Chandon.
 
Kerri Martin has had a distinguished career as a brand marketer of motorcycles (Harley Davidson, BMW) and automobiles (BMW, Volkswagen). One of her notable accomplishments was launching the MINI brand in the U.S.  She did a career pivot and attended The Culinary Institute of America, earning the Accelerated Wine and Beverage Certificate (AWBP), Certified Wine Professional (CWP),  and passed the Certified Sommelier Exam with flying colors of red, white and bubbly.  Subsequently,  she was a SVP at BBDO Worldwide, responsible for the E & J Gallo Wine & Spiritsaccount. Kerri was responsible for a number of their wine brands, including Gallo Family Wines, Barefoot, and Mirassou.  
 
Seth Turbow has had an interesting path to the wine industry.  During his college years at UW he worked at the Great Dane Brewing Company and Pub where 
he learned about fermentation (he made beer!).  He decided to parlay this interest to the wine industry and got a Masters at UC-Davis, one of the country's most prestigious wine programs.   He has worked for wineries in both the Napa Valley and in Australia.  He is now the winemaker for Trinchero Family Estates, a company that makes more than 35 labels of wine including Ménage à Trois and Sutter Home.

Richard Yau is a California native, but now lives in Milwaukee.  He co-founded BrightCellars, an innovative company that established a monthly wine club which matches your taste preferences with wines.  The company leverages analytics and algorithms to fine-tune your preferences.   BrightCellars has now expanded to their own labels and has introduced a cheese pairing group (run by a Badger!).
